Welcome To The Pragmatic Dharma Society! - by: Noah .
Hello and Welcome to the Pragmatic Dharma Society!

What is PDS?
PDS is a meeting point for a variety of local & virtual communities that are loosely connected by some common elements of the spiritual path:
  • Awakening is possible
  • Discussion of ones practice is fun and constructive
  • Peer-led and not heirarchical
  • Openness of information
  • Balancing traditionalism and modern innovation
What to Expect at a PDS Meeting:
PDS is open to meditators of all skill and experience levels. In general, people who are fairly committed to practice and are serious about personal transformation will find enjoy hanging out in PDS groups. Please feel free to search the directory below for a group near you. If there are none available, you can always join one of our monthly video chats to connect over the internet with like-minded practitioners. Generally, meeting formats follow a loose pattern: we go around in a circle, introduce ourselves & provide a brief overview of what has been happening in our meditations recently. After everyone is done sharing, anyone who has hot-button topics or questions from their own experience might want to share. Others chime in and the conversation goes from there. The goal of PDS is simply to connect like-minded travelers on the exciting & challenging journey inside that deep meditation provides.]]>

Welcome! - by: Chris Marti Welcome Mon, 04 Dec 2017 07:45:05 -0500 Welcome! - by: Daniele
I consider myself to be a very easygoing person who has discovered Buddha's teachings and found them incredibly sensible, agreeable and compelling. I strive to follow them and the Eight-fold Path, trying not to cause suffering to myself or others.

I started meditating on June of this year, but it's only recently (past two weeks) that I realized I want practice to be my clear top priority in life. I've been steadily increasing the time spent on the cushion and I'm working on creating an even more conducive environment for myself in the upcoming days. I plan to have 10 consecutive hours of daily meditation in retreat-like/lite conditions, starting later this week or the next one. Since I don't expect this endeavor (or its fruits) to be simple or easy to navigate, I thought it safe to find someone I could sort-of report to for support and motivating purposes. And if there's a way I can contribute to supporting and motivating others on their path, I think sharing my experience (or lack thereof ^^) is the way to go.

I wish all of us great patience and courage on our journey!]]>

PDS - Monthly Video Chats - December 2017 - by: Noah
We are switching to Zoom for our next chat, which should solve all A/V & connection issues from last time. Details of when the chat is & how to join are below (if you join via computer you will be prompted to download the Zoom app). We're intending to record this chat using the built-in Zoom tool once we get the OK from everyone who has joined. This is so that folks who can't make it still get to join the fun after the fact.

A little bit of background:

-Who's Welcome? Everyone who is interested in deep practice of any form & open to talking about their experiences in meditation.
-Why Join? For fun. To deepen your practice. To share ideas & experiences. To make friends. For support. To geek out on unusual, common interests.
-Meeting Agenda:
1) Short intros & share how your practice has been
2) Recent hot topics or points of interest in your practice
3) Other topics: Dharma talks/books of interest, experiences with different techniques or maps, how does formal practice intersect with daily life, etc.
-Other Points: Speak from your own direct experience. Don't hog the floor & stay off the soap box. Play nice. Have fun :)

Hope to see you all there,
